The Cheer Split Jumps are a challenging team cheer drill which allows cheerleaders to isolate and strengthen the hip and leg muscles responsible for jumping. The Cheer Split Jumps also allow for cheerleaders to gain a higher level of stamina while performing a longer team cheer routine.

Cheerleaders will need a set of Kbands securely attached above their knees. Also A room with a padded or softer floor is ideal (but not necessary) to complete the Cheer Split Jumps. Cheerleaders will position themselves in a lunge position, feet split with front thigh parallel to the ground and back knee hovering a few inches above the ground. Be sure chest and eyes are kept facing forward, while the front knee remains behind the front toe.

From a good starting position cheerleaders will explosively jump into the air and switch feet while airborne. Upon landing the same mid air switch will be executed. Do not stall in between repetitions, going straight into the next cheer split jump.

3 resisted sets at 12 seconds each will be performed. Be sure a short rest period is given between sets (15-45 seconds). Short rest periods will ensure athletes are being worked at a higher intensity, but are still able to get height during the Cheer Split Jumps. This cheer conditioning drill should be performed toward the end of a workout.
