Tunisians took one more step in the transition to democracy when they headed to the polls in November 2014 to vote in their country's first genuine presidential election. The Carter Center--on its 99th international observation mission--deployed 85 observers from nearly 30 countries and reported Tunisia's presidential elections were held in a calm, peaceful manner. A runoff election between the two leading presidential candidates will be held on Dec. 21, 2014, and a Carter Center delegation will be on hand to observe.
