What would the big year-end movie mashups look like if they were made 100 years ago? Or maybe 102 (who's counting)? 64 films. One year. This was film.
Also, quick note: I'm gonna recommend you not watch this one fullscreen, guys. I mean. You can if you want to. I'm just sayin': it looks a lot better when the blurry pixelation isn't blown up to massive size. That's what you get when you have to work with mostly streaming, sub-480p footage. :P
Also also: if I missed some films, it's likely because they weren't available online when I started this project (see Storytime! below). I tried to grab a few newer uploads towards the end of editing, but I was only able to fit a handful of extra clips.

STORYTIME!
So there's a reason why this isn't State of the Screen 1913. I know, you'd think a nice round 100 years ago would have been nice, right?
Truth is: I actually started this project around the end of 2011, beginning of 2012. I was inspired by Gen Ip's latest video at the time, Filmography 2011, and wanted to set my video 100 years before that one. I got as far as scouring the internet for all the source films I could find, organizing them into subclips, and making the narration intro and the Mr. Moon Man sequence. Then I got busy/discouraged/bored/lazy and put off making the rest.
I kept putting it off and putting it off, telling myself I would get back to it after this next project. After this next assignment. After this next funny cat video. Eventually, it had been so long that I was intimidated by my own procrastination guilt, and figured "It's not even the right year anymore. Why bother finishing?"
Fast-forward to September of this year, when I started taking a course on remix media as part of my film degree, and one of the final assignments was a creative remix project. That was when I told myself: "Okay, no more excuses. It's going to be late, but it's going to get done." And it did get done. That class was one of the best I've ever taken in my life, and it informed me in creating an even better video than I probably would have made in 2011/12. So I'm kind of thankful that this came out when it did, and how it did. The video quality may not be the best, but I think my editing skills have never been better. Feel like they're only going to improve after this.
So thanks to Professor J. Baron and the students of FS 412, 2013. You guys made this possible. :)
