An Ebola outbreak has been declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The country's health ministry has confirmed at least 17 deaths in the north-west town of Bikoro. The World Health Organisation has stepped up efforts to contain the spread of the deadly disease. It's released US$ 1million from an emergency fund and has deployed more than 50 experts to work with local officials. This is the ninth time an Ebola outbreak has been recorded in the D-R-C. The disease killed thousands of people in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia in 2014. It's thought believed to spread via fruit bats and humans contract the disease by eating contaminated bush meat.
