In the late 60's Disney Studios decided to sell all of the old animation cells in the gift shops at Disneyland. For a few bucks I grabbed this frame from 101 Dalmatians. Thousands of animation cels were sold before Disney realized they could get a bit more money for these. This cel sold for $2.75 and is now valued at $500 - $1200! Mickey Mouse Cels from Fantasia were selling for around $20. Now selling for as much as 500 times that much. These are the hand drawn frames actually used in the film. Each one totally unique. Many of the "cels" on the market are reproductions, not the hand drawn cels. From the web: A cel, short for celluloid, is a transparent sheet on which objects are drawn or painted for traditional, hand-drawn animation. Actual celluloid (consisting of cellulose nitrate and camphor) was used during the first half of the 20th century, but since it was flammable and dimensionally unstable it was largely replaced by cellulose acetate. With the advent of computer-assisted animation production, the use of cels has been all but abandoned in major productions. Disney studios stopped using cels in 1990 when Computer Animation Production System (CAPS) replaced this element in their animation process,[ and in the next decade and a half, the other major animation studios phased cels out as well.
