Q: Just watched your Aug. 30, lesson, 'Simple Guitar Soloing Exercises.' And, it helped clarify a few things for me. But, I need more detailed help. Could you make a lesson that covers how to build longer guitar lines? Most of my melody phrases are too short. No matter how I try, I just can't get them to become longer melody ideas. I think I'm missing out with how to bridge the shapes of the scales along the neck. Derek - Great Falls, Montana USA A: Playing melodies that are composed of "Longer Guitar Lines" requires that the guitarist would already know a good deal of all of the common "in position" scale patterns. Once most of the in position scale shapes are well developed, we can start to work on interlocking those shapes into much longer patterns. The interlocked shapes are often referred to as, "Along the Neck Scale Patterns." In the lesson, we begin by exploring a few of those shapes.
