Workers are set for a nightmare commute home during this evening's rush hour with 80mph winds cancelling train journeys up and down the country as Storm Diana pummels the UK. Both the London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway providers said a 50mph speed limit on the tracks today had left some trains 'out of position' across its network, causing huge backlogs. Motorists have also been warned of possibly long delays tonight, with widespread reports of trees and debris blocking roads and gale-force winds shutting some bridges. The Met Office and the RAC both issued tips for drivers on how to stay safe in the treacherous conditions, including to drive slower, and to avoid overtaking and using roads exposed to the elements. Meanwhile, planes have been spotted struggling to land in frightening footage that shows winds causing them to wobble in the face of gale-force gusts.
