MIAMI VALLEY -- A Miami Valley woman has just learned she has become a victim of tax-related identity theft. 

The single mother of four, who didn't want to be identified, said she went to file her taxes this past weekend, "and, I got an email that I was rejected because someone already used my social security number," she said. 

The Internal Revenue Service provides tips and information that can help you protect yourself with tax season upon us. This link will take you to prevention, detection and victim assistance.

We talked with the Dayton Better Business Bureau about how people can receive your information, "the most common place to get your information against you is off your person, so, maybe your trash, something you posted online," said John North. 

Along with tax fraud, identity fraud comes in to play. Experts recommend you check in with the credit bureaus and your statements frequently.
