Rajinikanth and director Karthik Subbaraj have wrapped up the shooting of Petta 15 days ahead of their schedule.

It is now being speculated that the film might hit the theatres on Pongal 2019. It looks like Petta is going to face a stiff competition at the box office.

According to producer TG Thyagarajan, Ajith's Viswasam, directed by Siruthai Siva, will release on Pongal as well.

It'd be a solid face-off between two leading stars from Kollywood.

Viswasam is in the last leg of shooting and a song is being filmed in Mumbai.

"The talkie portions of Viswasam are complete and Ajith has also completed dubbing his portions. The film is on track for a grand release on Pongal 2019," revealed a source close to the team.

Trade pundits state that if Petta and Viswasam hit the screens on the same date, it could affect the box office collection of both the films. It is being rumoured that Rajinikanth's Petta might release on January 26 next year, if not on Pongal.

As of now, there has been no official announcement about the release date of Rajinikanth's Petta.
