Diwali is incomplete without diyas, but with 'replacements' like candles and lights coming into the market, diyas may have suffered a body blow. But many people's livelihood still depends on them. "There has been a drop of almost 50% in the sales of diyas in the year," says Santosh kumar , who works at a diya maker in Bikaner. The biggest competition for the potters is the branded diyas being sold in the malls.
