South Africa has won praise in the United Nations Security Council among a select group of states who set a historical precedent by abandoning their nuclear weapons programmes and arsenals out of self-interest. The Council met at Ministerial level on non-proliferation amidst an escalation in the rhetoric between Washington and Pyongyang over North Korea's pursuit of nuclear arms.
