The north pole could be entirely free of ice in the summer within the next few years. This melting-ice phenomenon will have an impact on Greenland as well. Kilometer deep ice is already starting to melt away there. Danish and American researchers are employing the most modern equipment to find out just how much has already been lost. The whole world will be affected by the loss of ice âand not only due to the tremendous volumes of water that will swell the oceans. As the massive âand very heavyâsheets of ice that now weigh down Greenland disappear from the surface, the countryâs land mass is likely to rise, causing further displacement of water to vulnerable area of the world like the coast of the Netherlands and parts of Bangladesh, which are likely to disappear altogether.
