Rum and The Royal Navy have always been inexorably linked, providing both the means to rule the world, and a means to deal with losing it. Celebrating that noble connection: The London Cocktail Club Bloomsbury.

From the booze-blenders behind the original, gin-centric LCC (who amazingly managed to win Raymond Blanc's The Restaurant without being able to cook), this sophomore effort celebrates UK oceanic might via the aforementioned sugarcane-hooch, as well as walls covered in subtle skull & crossbone patterns and tattoos of sexy ladies clearly up for a jolly rogering.

For the common seaman, imbibing starts with the 18thC Black Strap (Muscovado, vanilla, lime & liquorice), the exotic Red Dragon (pineapple, lime, Chinese 5-spice syrup), and the ludicrously strong House Grog: three rums, plus port, sherry, gin & arrack -- a Sri Lankan brandy sure to tame your Tamil Tiger.

Concoctions designed for "Officers" include rumminess like the "Pink Gin & Tonic" (with navy-strength sailor juice, sherry, orgeat, and a tonic reduction), as well as departures like the port/ Champagne/ lemon classic Nelson's Blood, and Arrack Punch, rounded out with Cognac, brown sugar, and "a toast to Her Majesty" (as if she doesn't have enough bread already).

The list also harbors "Stowaways" like the Bacon & Egg Martini (bac-infused JD, maple syrup, egg whites), while an all-night food menu will provide ballast such as chicken liver pate w/ cherry jam, a skewer of rump steak doused in horseradish creme fraiche, and a pint of chips w/ Bloody Mary mayo, neatly providing both the means to get fat, and a way to deal with it too.
