In this film, I talk about making a living out of doing lots of different musical things. I do ten different things, meaning if I lose one, it doesn't matter - it would get replaced by something else and I've still got the other nine. This is a real-life musical situation, where a mortgage needs paying, bills, etc., and music really can be a good way of making a living!

Time stamps:

0:00 introduction
1:21 Social media - the advantages and disadvantages to the musician..
4:36 Diversity - the need to be flexible and multi-capable as a musician..
6:45 Gigs - how to do them and how not to get bored/disillusioned. How to avoid problems with money and setting realistic prices for weddings and functions.
14:43 Session work - etiquette, and the need to be able to do what you're told. Also the ability for classical players and rock players to be able to adapt to each other's way of working..
22:54 Teaching - use this to your advantage: while you teach others, you're also learning yourself. Learning new instruments as a teacher gives you perspective..
28:06 Workshops and presentations - teaching in a group and the ability to specialise..
30:49 Earning money while you sleep - making YouTube films, and doing library music..
36:02 Being a music examiner - a good perspective of how you come across to others, essential in music performance..
38:55 Fixing and repairing instruments - the need to understand how your instrument works. It's expensive to get something repaired when it could be something small that's preventing it from working..

Enjoy and hope you get something from it!
