This piece attempts to convey the bitter, double sorrow of Orpheus - first, losing his beloved Eurydice to the bite of a serpent, then, after softening the heart of Hades himself in order to gain his permission to rescue Eurydice from the Underworld, losing her for a second time, when just as they almost finished ascending back up to  the land of the living, he forgot his oath to Hades and turned around to check Eurydice was still behind him - losing her this time, for all eternity...

An excerpt of track 3 of "Apollo's Lyre"; "Hymn to Zeus", has been adapted by the Grammy award winning composer, Rufus Wainwright and will be featured in 2 scenes of his ancient Roman-themed second opera, "Hadrian":
