This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Architecture might be the last thing to come to mind when it comes to fighting social exclusion of Roma population. Well, here's how architects forced to work with as little as possible are able to change lifes. A young architect trying to bring architecture to places where it usually does not occur. Michal Sláderk is a founder of the civic association Archimera and also a member of another one, CA – ArTur. He received his academic degree Mgr. Art as a graduate of the Department of Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. However, he has not completed his education plans yet. Currently, he attends doctoral studies at the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak University of Technology, and at the same time, he works as a coordinator of the Housing Programme held by People in Need, Czech non-profit organisation with an active branch also in Slovakia. He has been working in the organisation since 2008, when he was involved in construction of an experimental straw-clay house in the municipality of Spišské Podhradie. At present, he is dealing with a project of design houses in a Romany settlement in the village of Kojatice constructed through self-help. His efforts are aimed at improvement of socially excluded groups. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
