DAYTON -- A number of flights into and out of Dayton International Airport were canceled or delayed ahead if the massive Northeast snow storm. All major airlines canceled more than 6,000 flights ahead of the monster storm, causing major headaches for those trying to get home to the Miami Valley. "It was looking like I was going to be stuck in Philly tonight," Cincinnati's Phil Franks, explained Monday (January 16th, 2015) Before the weather ever played a factor, Franks was dealing with canceled fights on his journey home from Connecticut. "That plane broke down too. So they gave me a voucher to go to the hotel, stayed the night. I get there to leave first thing in the morning and that plane broke down too," Franks added. After 2 days of travel Phil found himself in Philly - one of three east coast hubs shut down today. "Anything past 3:00 o'clock they're canceled. I was a 3:00 o'clock thankfully," Phil told ABC 22/Fox45 after traveling for 50 hours. With each hour that passes, more and more flights were cancelled. By 6:00 p.m. Monday (Jan. 26, 2015), a handful of arriving flights had been cancelled as well as two departing flights. Those flights were coming and going to Philadelphia, New York, in Newark, NJ. Countless others have been delayed, including nearly a fourth of the flights at Dayton International Airport according to airport personnel. Weather is affecting layovers and flights in every corner of the country. Even flights coming in from places like Dallas and Atlanta have been rerouted. "He was coming from San Juan and he was late for three hours so we got another flight coming out of Atlanta and arriving now. Snow, of course," Dayton's Charlotte Hanson said of her five hour airport wait. At last count, more than 6,000 flights to East Coast airports have been called off across the country.
