It is a little-known fact that some 2.5 million euros of German taxpayers money is spent every year on competitive cycling. In recent years, the sport has been beset by allegations of widespread doping and calls to curtail its state support have been getting louder. Public broadcasters have chosen not to air live coverage of Tour de France, and experts say its time to stop using taxpayers money to fund competitive cycling. We discussed the issue with some of them.
