When I should be animating. But I'm stuck. So I made this instead. Would you believe Ray Harryhausen refused to animate ever again unless Caffey reworked the Talos Awakens scene with more... gravitas? Here's the original unseen edit. Maurice Rootes did an admirable job of cutting around shots he needed but didn't have for an iconically important scene. Chaffey shot all the dialogue in one dollop, but then in the edit room confronted too many stagnant pronouncements here. So Rootes cooked up physical dynamics from just two one-take takes: The pontificating in the bushes; then the walking across the rocks up to the treasure room. Result? Hercules and his little buddy keep beaming back, Scotty, to the same weeds -- with a happy stemmy sprout hanging out between them (...even again after they stop far out on a sea of dry rocks). At one point Hercules turns around and looks at nothing. I compressed this sequence to make it all even more obvious. Why? Why did I do this? Why? Call it an editing exercise. I'm procrastinating.
