Bipolar Stigma: 3 Ways it Affects Our Lives Living with bipolar disorder is a challenge on its own, however, part of the pain of living with it is dealing with bipolar stigma. When you live with a stigmatized condition, it affects your life in so many ways – like the 3 ways bipolar stigma affects our lives that I mention in the video. 1. Stigma prevents people with mental illness from living good lives. 2. It keeps us from receiving the treatment we deserve. 3. It makes us insecure to the extent that we are afraid to speak up in situations that call for us to give our input. Bipolar stigma persuades the general public to believe we are violent, disgruntled and worthless individuals. It keeps people living with a mental illness from getting jobs, having a family, maintaining friendships and living the life they deserve. How does bipolar stigma affect your life?
