After a four day blockade in the centre of Barcelona, now the government is stepping in.They''re meeting with the three main taxi unions, to consider their demand that the authorities restrict the number of licenses issued to drivers working for ride-hailing apps such as Uber.Traditional taxi drivers say the legal limit of one ride-hailing vehicle license per 30 taxis is no longer being enforced.(Spanish) taxi driver on strike: "They''ve been promising things for years but done nothing. There are more and more Uber and Cabify vehicles and there aren''t enough jobs for so many cars."On Tuesday, the Transport minister will meet with representatives of ride-hailing platforms.
   (Spanish) Uber driver: "The only thing they might achieve is to stop future licenses being issued. But the licenses we already have can''t be taken away."This latest wave of industrial action started last week, when Barcelona taxi drivers announced a two-day strike supporting the mayor''s initiative to limit the scope of ride-hailing companies. After that regulation was struck down by the Catalonia High Court, drivers in Madrid and Barcelona said they''d conitnue their strike indefinitely.The Ministry of Public Works called for calm after taxi drivers blocked roads in major cities, distrupting city centres and airports and affecting thousands of passengers and tourists.One union has said they would cut off the port of Barcelona if they don''t get what they want from talks with the government.
