Gov. Henry McMaster calls Santee Cooper a "rogue agency"

Gov. Henry McMaster said Santee Cooper, the state-owned electric cooperative that was a joint partner in the failed V.C. Summer project, has been undermining his efforts to sell it. Hundreds of emails released on Tuesday show conversations between contract lobbyists for Santee Cooper devising ways to hamper momentum for a sale that McMaster has been pushing. McMaster called the utility a "rogue agency" during a press conference in his office and told reporters that Santee Cooper officials told him lobbyists would not go behind his back to work against the sale. McMaster added that Santee Cooper again overstepped its boundaries when it hired an investment ban, at $150,000 a month, to evaluate the utility for sale. That's something lawmakers should've undertaken, not Santee Cooper.
