Letters removed from Cincinnati Gardens

BOND HILL, Ohio (WKRC) - Cincinnati Gardens is no more, even before it is torn down. Crews removed the letters from the former event space December 4 and 5.

The letters will be donated to the American Sign Museum, according to the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority. It bought the building and plans to tear down the 67-year-old arena.

According to the Authority's website, demolition is expected to take about eight months and cost $3 million. It's been fenced off in preparation for demolition.

“We are excited to get this project off the ground and sincerely appreciate the collaboration with the City of Cincinnati and regional economic development partners needed to repurpose this prominent property for future jobs,” according to Laura Brunner, President and CEO of the Redevelopment Authority in a news release. “Without each one of these partners moving the project forward, this property could not serve its highest and best use to the community.”

The 20 acres of the arena will likely be transformed into new development.

Before the sale, Cincinnati Gardens hosted the Beatles, sports teams including the Cincinnati Royals, the Cyclones and XU. Renovations were expected to cost millions and no one bought it during it's three years up for sale.
