The Shamshadin Development Initiative is an effort to revive the economy in the region of Armenia on the most dangerous part of the border with Azerbaijan. The active conflict at the Armenian-Azeri border forestalls any reopening of trade relations. The closed border also has led to economic stagnation. Involved in the project are concerned diasporans, locals and foreign dignitaries.
