Earl Golding is known as the father of bass fishing tournaments. A sportswriter for the Waco Tribune-Herald, Golding started the first bass fishing tournament, the Texas State Championship, which is still being held after 50-plus years.

Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame seeks to recognize and honor those who have made a lasting contribution to freshwater fishing in Texas and to foster awareness and appreciation of and participation in the sport of fishing.
