This puzzle uses an obscure mechanic involving P-Switches that allow it to provide a small "boost" to Mario's momentum. Using this, you can get past the enemy stack in the middle of the level. You have to use this mechanic extensively in order to reset. The last step involves a P-Boost into a fire flower, which allows you to get into the key door with fire.
