Rhiannon's Closing Statement

Everything I’m about to say is going to be wrong. 
No matter what I’m about to say, 
there will be fault with whatever it is I do say.
You see, I’m not a feminist.
At least not the in the way I’m being told I’m supposed to be.
The “there aren’t enough women in this game, fix it” way.
The “why are all these tits hanging out, fix it” way.
The “you only use masculine pronouns, fix it” way.
The “there need to be more women at the table, fix it” way.
The “I’m talking now you listen” way.
You see, 
to me, 
a scantily clad warrior on the box of a fantasy game, 
SHIT YES!
that’s who I want to be.
Because, 
me, 
who I am outside of board games,
is not a 6’4, svelte warrior woman.
Me,
who I am outside of board games,
is a 5’4, plump mother of three.
When I look around and don’t see other women,
I remember I’m in a position where I can forget.
Forget all the things I should be tending to.
The shopping, the cooking, the cleaning, the bedtimes.
Forget for a night where I can remember who I am outside of “mom”. 
Forget for a night where I can remember just how lucky I am.
Lucky that I can spend too much time playing games.
Lucky that I no longer have to live in fear of what tomorrow holds.
Lucky that I can dress and act and say what I please.
Lucky that I can be the woman I choose to be.
Then, I think about how not all women can choose.
How not all women are equal, even to me.
They’re not equal in ways that have nothing to do with art on a board or words in book or numbers in a room.
When I think of making “it” equal for women, 
“it” doesn’t involve games at all.
“It” involves freedom.
“It” involves giving courage to women who are too afraid to leave their abusive home.
“It” involves feeding the children of women who can’t do it alone.
“It” involves teaching a grown woman to read, so she, 
she,
can be the woman she chooses to be.
So, I’m sorry that everything I just said is wrong.
I’m sorry I can’t be the feminist I’m supposed to be.
I’m not, however, sorry I’m me.
