A video featuring Steamrail's restored 2-8-0 steam locomotive K190 hauling passenger trains over the heavily graded (1 in 40) Victorian Goldfields Railway on Wednesday 30 October 2013. The locomotive had recently returned to the VGR after a few months on mainline tours and maintenence at Newport.

The action commences with K190 approaching Bendigo Rd near Maldon with the morning train, followed by scenes at Muckleford and Sawmill Rd. The return trip is captured climbing away from Winters Flat and in the forest between Sinclairs Lane and Pipeline Track

The afternoon trip is seen climbing upgrade near the 88 milepost, passing over the Sawmill Rd timber bridge and arriving in Castlemaine. We then move to the Winters Flat timber bridge for the return run, followed by scenes climbing away from Muckleford Creek and approaching Maldon on the final 1 in 40 grade on the line.

The Victorian Goldfields Railway operates the former VR branch line from Castlemaine to Maldon in the central goldfields region of Victoria, Australia. The line is typical of many "pioneer branch lines" that were built around the country with light 60lb rails and heavy 1 in 40 grades. 

The railway is operated by volunteers with steam trains operating on Sundays and Wednesdays throughout the year except on days of high fire danger. For more information please visit http://www.vgr.com.au
