In Napa Valley, California’s wine country, grapes are grown year after year thanks to farmers who love what they do. One FarmHer, Debby Zygielbaum, relies on her eyes, her instincts and a look at the soil to turn those grapes into wine. “Even if I’m in the vineyard and having a bad day, it’s like ‘look at the view.’ If we have a problem, we’ll surmount it,” said Debby as she described her job. FarmHer follows Debby vine to vine to see the different types of grapes and soil that go into organic wine production. While Debby oversees the operation, there are many workers, both human and animal, who care for the plants at Robert Sinskey Vineyards. “As much as I can, I create a supportive culture to help people thrive so they feel comfortable talking to me so I can continue to encourage them to be involved in farming,” said Debby. Making wine begins with caring for the land and ends with an open bottle on the table. The tour takes FarmHer into the wine cellars for a taste of the final product.
