Speaking during a visit to Dawlish, in Devon, Prime Minister David Cameron says the Government will do "everything it can to coordinate the nations resources" while Labour leader Ed Miliband visits flood-hit Purley in Berkshire.

David Cameron and Ed Miliband were wearing their wellies, in preparation for wading into deep water, as they visited flood-hit areas of the UK.

Prime Minister David Cameron was visiting the damaged railway line at Dawlish, in Devon and was keen to stress that the Government was "doing everything it could to coordinate resources".

"If money needs to be spent, it will be spent. If resources are required, we will provide them. If military can help they will be there. We must do everything. But it's going to take time to put these things right," Mr Cameron said.

Meanwhile Labour leader Ed Miliband visited residents in Berkshire who had been evacuated due to severe flooding.

"I wanted to talk to local residents about what they're going through. I think what they want is investment in flood defences so that this kind of thing, which has happened before in this area, doesn't happen again," Mr Miliband said.

Around 400 weather warnings remain in place across England, with forecasters predicting further heavy rainfall on already-saturated ground.
