July 3, 2017: Burnet, Blanco County Line Near Round Mountain: Mother and Son Killed in Pursuit and Crash. A short pursuit and deadly crash closes down highway 281 near the Blanco, Burnet County line. Just before 11:30 am a DPS trooper travelling south on 281 observed a silver Honda vehicle cross the center line almost striking his vehicle. The trooper turned on the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop when the driver failed to stop. The vehicle continued north bound on 281 for a very short period of time before crossing the center line again striking two vehicles. Both the 69 year old male driver and 99 year old female passenger in the silver Honda were deceased on the scene. One person was air lifted from the scene by Star Flight out of Austin and transported to an area hospital. An autopsy has been ordered on the male driver and an investigation is underway at this time. Video shot on scene in addition to live footage.
