I've been wanting to try durian fruit for years now and I finally found a place that sold them. It's hard to find them where I am.
I've heard many good things, and even more bad things. So, I had to try it for myself.
My husband and I got one for our 3 year anniversary. It definitely had an odor, but not nearly as bad as I expected it to be. It was sweet and a little foul smelling. Very pungent.
Right off the bat, I tasted onions. The one we had tasted like pearl onions, with a touch of cherimoya and artichoke.
It was very unique. Not quite sure if I like it. I'm looking forward to trying another one, to see if it tastes the same. I hear no two durian taste the same.

Also, I heard they are best and fully ripe when they have a split down the side, ours did not.
Comment below and let me know if you think ours wasn't ripe, if that's why it tasted like onions. From what I've heard and read, it should taste like vanilla ice cream or custard. The one we had was far from tasting like that.
Any tips for picking out my next one?
