Computer power was at a minimum, and ships were just barely getting into the high tech age. There were no cell phones or pagers, your best bet was writing a letter or using a phone booth. When you were in this Navy, there was a lot more suspense and surprise at every corner. This was the Navy of 1980-1986, when HM2 Grover Sailed around the world from calm to danger. There was no predicting what could happen next, you just showed up on the scene. In only 6 years, Derek experienced the after math of the Beirut bombing. He was sent to a search and rescue party of a wrecked frigate in the phillipines, and even caught in a massive Pacific Hurricane. The Navy definitely came through on their advertising promise, It was not just a job but an adventure. (There is some slight clipping in this episode, it's not your device it is the recording)
