My 4 year old has leg/back pain, weight loss, & fevers. The doctor says it's normal. Is that true?

It sounds like you have a little four-year-old boy who's had leg and back pain, random weight loss and fevers and it sounds like you've taken him to the doctor and that's good. They've done testing, MRI's, X-rays, blood work, and it all came back normal. So that's reassuring but as a parent, I can understand how that's a little unsettling to watch your child do those things and not to have answers. As for whether or not random fevers and weight loss are normal, there's a ton of different factors that would go into deciding this and this would be a good question for the doctor. You mentioned that they said it was okay but if you're not satisfied with the answer that you got from one doctor, you are your son's advocate and it's okay to seek a second opinion. They can look at your son's overall health history, perform exams, and then decide if they feel like it's normal or not. Sometimes after all tests are normal and everything else is well, all doctors can do is sit back, watch, and wait and see if anything else comes up that warrants further investigation at that point. Fevers, you know, randomly here and there can be attributed to random illness and all kids get random illness during the course of the year. Weight loss can be attributed to a child who's been recently more active than they have been in the past. I think you said six pounds in 8 weeks. I think it was good for you to go to the doctor and get all that checked out. So, again, I would speak to a doctor about it and they can give you the best information based on their ability to do an exam and find out more about your son's history.
