5 Richmond Students Have Staph Superbug

Five students from the same Richmond elementary school have been diagnosed with MRSA, which is a drug-resistant form of staph infection. The germ has been in the national spotlight following the death of a Virginia teenager and the release of a government report estimating the infection kills about 19,000 Americans a year and sickens more than 90,000. Richmond Superintendent Jim Robins sent a letter home with parents saying that five students at Sunrise Elementary are battling the superbug. The infections started showing up last week. The five students are expected to recover; none of them had to be hospitalized.
