We've all sat through (and some of us have constructed) presentations in which projected graphics consist of seemingly endless bulleted lists of excessive text. Bullets "kill" and will usually annihilate engagement in course material as students struggle to blindly copy every word of onscreen text. Little if any learning occurs. Dr. Miller, a professor of Psychology at the University of Connecticut, suggests an alternate strategy: to replace bullet points with multimedia. The downside of this approach is the significant amount of time involved in producing such material, but that is balanced with significant levels of student engagement and learning, which, after all, is one of education's primary goals. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
