Hey guys, we recently made a video describing 10 things we DON'T buy, and how we are saving $1 million. View it HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYFgsHCu3R0

We thought we'd be completely honest and describe 8 things we DO spend a lot of money on, and do the calculation for how much those expensive choices cost us over time. The below list represents the DIFFERENCE between what we spend on the premium option and a potentially less expensive option invested over time (30 years) at a 5% annual return:

1. Education (Ivy League vs. State options) $2,245,167
2. Vacations (Premium trips vs. modest trips) $520,166
3. Charity (Giving generously vs. volunteering) $346,224
4. Shows (Musicals, concerts, movies vs. cheaper options) $109,863
5. Home (Premium home finishes vs. cheaper options) $89,355
6. Self Care (expensive beauty and wellness treatments vs. cheaper options) $287,966
7. Pets (high quality pet food vs. cheap pet food) $34,959
8. Parties (going all out for hosting parties vs. spending less) $82,230
GRAND TOTAL: $3,716,930

Because of the way that compound interest works, every time we make a choice to use a premium product or spend money on a more expensive experience, it's not only the difference in price between those two options that goes to the true cost - it's the opportunity cost of not having invested that money prudently. Accordingly, choosing expensive options has a much larger REAL cost over time.

We made this honest video in the hopes that if you're considering making an expensive choice, you consider the true cost and make sure that it is really worth it for you. If you guys are interested, we can make more videos about how we invest our money to make up the difference and make sure that we remain financially healthy during our retirement. Which of these things do you spend money on too, or do these seem outrageous to you? Comment below!
