A question about WI-FI

Please Read... Recently I set up a wireless network, but the computer downstairs has terrible trouble accsessing the web and keeps dropping out all the time. I've tried everything I can think of, moving the roter closer, trying the the dongle in the front and back usb ports, even changing the router's name, none of whitch seems to improove anything. I know some routers have an antenna connection, but I cant find a socket on the router anywhere where an antenna could be connected, I even heard that the signal can be improoved by changing the "channel" it's on but there's no option anywhere to do that. My PSP however, can get the signal just fine no matter what, even when it's where the computer is. So WHY is the computer acting so retarded when the PSP clearly shows that there is a good enough signal comming though?
