DAYTON -- Family members and friends of Effie Williams are gathering on Fernwood Avenue tonight at 6 p.m. to remember the 72-year-old woman. We talked to neighbors who said Williams had only lived there a few months but in that short time made a good impression. They hate what happened to her. Police said Effie Williams died from a gunshot wound. She was found in her home on Fernwood Avenue on Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 15, 2015). A neighbor told FOX 45 he heard a shot the night before Effie was found dead. "Last night at 9:49, I heard a gunshot and I thought it was in between our houses on the street instead of on the other side of me," said neighbor Edmund Hill. Hill said Williams was found on the kitchen floor. Her granddaughter told the 911 operator it was a bloody scene. Neighbors are shocked. "We were shocked to hear what happened on this street because it's a very good neighborhood, everybody watches out for each other and it's always been quiet," said a neighbor who didn't want to be identified. Police had been called to Williams house before. She called 911 on Saturday. "My used-to-be boyfriend came over here with a hatchet and my friend is sitting over here. Can you send a police over here right away," said Williams on the 911 call. "Right now in his hand?" the 911 operator asked. "Yeah, he's running up the street," Williams told the 911 operator. You wonder what's going to happen next. I mean, it just doesnt happen in this area of town, it goes on in all areas," said the unidentified neighbor.
