This is the first of three parts of a live stream I performed during the first half of OU vs. Baylor 2017. It was a wild game.

This is playlist is for the Sooner football fanatics. It's for the folks who missed their friend's wedding because she had the audacity to get married on the same day as OU-Texas. It's for the folks who want to see Bob Stoops get his statue alongside Bennie Owens, Bud Wilkinson and Barry Switzer.

It's not for posers. It's not for the folks who don't know who Jack Tatum was; didn't watch Johnny Manziel tear apart OU in the Cotton Bowl or suffer through the 40-6 loss to Clemson. It's for the folks who schedule their lives around fall Saturdays in Norman and vacations around bowl season.

Quite simply, this for the folks who hear "Boomer!" and know what time it is.

My mama said a lot of off-the-wall, untoward and weird things. She's done this most of my life, and only recently have I had the idea of putting some of her thoughts and opinions on the interwebs. 

And, oh man, does she ever have opinions. But the coolest thing about my mama is when she gets to say she doesn't know what's going on. That means you get to see her invest in you, and that's one of the most remarkable parts of her personality.

I really wanted to put this playlist out here because it reminds every day is Mother's Day. And I'm glad I get to share my mother with y'all.

In this playlist, I chronicle my journey as a PhD student from the first class forward. I am earning a PhD in English with an emphasis on creative writing. Creative nonfiction is my bent. But I write poetry and short stories too. I love writing. I love teaching people how to write; how to write a good essay; how to properly use grammar to reach the people in their respective communities. 

While most of work is focused on race, class and gender, I tell a lot of jokes鈥攂lack jokes, yo mama jokes, college jokes, grad school jokes鈥攂ut also give insight into just how tough it is to earn an advanced degree. 

I earned a masters degree in professional writing. I've worked as a journalist for 11 years and am in the midst of finishing my first nonfiction book. It's called Downrange: A Black Man's Odyssey Into Guns (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). You'll find me here talking about that. And teaching you become a teacher. And making sure you know you are a writer. You write on Facebook every day. You tweet. You text. You care about communicating, and I care about teaching you how to be a better communicator.

This the all-fun, all things books playlist.

I used to call it I Hate Dragons because I got a thing about dragons. I don't expect you to understand or like that *I* don't like dragons. It's cool if you like dragons. But I don't like dragons. I Hate Dragons. I love books. So this is where I talk about the books I love as well as the books I hate. I usually upload a book review each Friday. Thank you for checking out my channel. I'm bookish.

I think book reviews are important. I think they're important because passing along the books that mean the most to us is another way of connecting, another way of reaching each other. In a world where we sometimes see so close and yet so far away, if we can use our stories to better understand each other's point of view, each other's cultures, each other's wants and beliefs, we're much more likely to want and need each other. I truly believe this, and it's the reason I created this playlist.
