As a result of the continued stable security environment in Solomon Islands, the military component of RAMSI is expected to drawdown by mid 2013. The returning Kiwi platoon has been replaced by an Australian Defence Force (ADF) platoon as part of our rotation cycle with the ADF. The Defence Force will continue its commitment to RAMSI maintaining eight headquarters positions until drawdown takes place. The RAMSI Participating Police Force (PPF) and RAMSI will remain after the military component departs. The NZ Defence Force has contributed to RAMSI since its inception in 2003 and over 1500 personnel have deployed, working alongside Australian, Papua New Guinea and Tongan military personnel to maintain security and stability in Solomon Islands. The military presence enabled the RAMSI PPF and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force to work in a safe and secure environment, allowing Solomon Islands to continue to develop its governance, stability and prosperity.
