TEDxMSVU speaker John Hamblin discusses entrepreneurship for seniors and ageism in business in his talk, “Carpe Diem! Entrepreneurship at any age”. Driven by the desire to demonstrate that older adults want to stay involved in society and have valuable experience and knowledge to draw on, John talks about the value of their continued involvement in the labour force and his work as an entrepreneur and in supporting start ups. John Hamblin has held several senior executive director positions throughout his career and since retiring has put his skills and knowledge to work. His interest in start ups, evolved into not only assisting start ups and entrepreneurs in Nova Scotia but also promoting “Seniorpreneurship” and the tremendous value mature workers can provide. In 2014 John founded Startup Canada’s Halifax community as part of the Startup Canada organization. In 2015, he was the recipient of the Atlantic Canada Senior Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In addition, John founded the Halifax chapter of Aging2.0, a Silicon Valley based organization geared to the application of technology to assist seniors in all aspects of their life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
