Yinghao speech A steadfast journey of being earnest and intense. A mentor First met Yinghao National Junior College English top student Having difficulty with English English was called general paper Or GP Was sent to GP clinic- means I may fail my GP. I knew I Needed a GP hospital. Instead of teaching me English, which reached a limit when it came to writing argumentative essays about world politics, He showed me how to love English for what it is, and let it guide the writer's intention into my heart. We poured through Albert Camus, Kafka, George Bernard Shaw, and nearly every considered unconventional back in the 19th century but a perfect norm today. I did very well for my A level GP, he says it is my effort but I don't think so. We both got into NUS easily because of our English fortitude. Just kidding. Thanks to him, I actually got interested in libral arts and applied for one of the most prestigious programme in NUS, called the university scholar's programme. We discussed how to write the admission essay over several weeks. I passed several interviews and when I started the the programme, I was shocked! We were learning exactly what Yinghao had casually suggested to me to read and discover. Talk about getting a high end education. You just need a friend like Yinghao. So he is a mentor to me. He is also like a true brother to me. Before I completed my PhD last year, I lived in constant struggle to make ends meet, trying my best to live within my means and not beg for handout from my parents who went back to Korea. I Being a Singaporean citizen actually worked against me because I was not given any separate accomodation cost from my scholarship. That really killed me because other than bread and butter, I had nothing left for entertainment for nearly five years. Like a good brother, he spent a good deal of time with me in coffeeshops and invited me to his home to have supper together sometimes. He was always a listener and a shrewd thinker. Talking with him in terms of philosophy, society and the idea of intensity really became an engine that drove me constantly day and night. So I shall conclude my speech with what Yinghao and I came up with. It still dictates how I live my life and it has guided me through thick and think with a cheerful attitude: "live with intensity! Yinghao, To intensity! Thank you for the deep friendship.
