The online votes have been tabulated, and the winning name for Tua's precious baby is Batu. Batu is the name of islands off the coast of Sumatra. But it also means "rock" or "stone".

The other choices were Kadoa, meaning "small gift" and Anoano, meaning "blessing". All of these names, of course, have deeper, more special meanings in the cultures from which they originated.

Batu is definitely also a small gift and a blessing to the Zoo, to all the visitors who will see her, and to her relatives in the wild, who will benefit from the interest in protecting them that will be inspired in those who get to know her at the Zoo.

The first part of this video was recorded November 12, 2009, and the second part was recorded December 1, 2009. Like all primates, including humans, development is slow compared to many other species.

But Batu is developing at exactly the rate she should be, and is a beautiful, healthy, baby, thanks to her wonderful mother, Tua, and to an expert Zoo staff monitoring her 24 hours a day to make sure all is going well!
