In honor of Black History Month, we honor American civil rights leader and Porsha Williams’ grandfather, Reverend Hosea Williams! Reverend Hosea Williams was Martin Luther King Jr.’s chief field lieutenant and MLK would often refer to him as his “bull in a china closet,” and “Castro.” Williams and John Lewis led one of the Selma to Montgomery marches on Bloody Sunday – March 7 1965 – for the right for African-American citizens to vote that resulted in beatings from the police. Their demonstration led to President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Right Acts of 1965 granting African-American citizens the right to vote.
