Comic storyteller and solo performer Thao P. Nguyen levels a racist man on the street with her surprising monologue about micro-aggression. It’s a daily occurrence in her life, so she’s found a way to combine her scholarship and humor to stand up in a whole new way. Nguyen’s shows, including "WHITE POWER: A Comedy," "Fortunate Daughter," and "In the Crosshairs with Martha & Thao" have been called “theatrical magic,” and “virtuosic,” as well as cutting and just plain hilarious. www.ThaoSolo.com Thao P. Nguyen is a doctoral student at Stanford’s Department of Theater & Performance Studies, minoring in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her scholarly interests lie at the intersection of live performance, health and social justice. Her first full-length play Fortunate Daughter was named one of the top 10 Bay Area plays of 2013 by KQED's Year in the Arts. Her latest project, WHITE POWER: A Comedy, debuted at Stanford’s Nitery Theater this year. She is the former artistic director for the San Francisco Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
