The museum's annual Living Earth Festival showcases the best of traditional knowledge and traditions to promote sustainable living. This year, the festival focuses on the potato, a food staple that spread across the world from the indigenous peoples of South America. In this segment, chef Terri Ami (Hopi/Navajo), uses the challenge ingredient, Peruvian purple potatoes, to create purple potato-blue corn griddle cakes with wild mushrooms. Chef Loretta Barrett Oden (Citizen Band Potawatomi), host of the Emmy award-winning PBS series, Seasoned with Spirit, emcees.

This cooking demonstration was webcast and recorded in the Rasmuson Theater of the National Museum of the American Indian on July 16, 2016.
