What You Need To Know About The Instagram Algorithm In 2018

It’s no secret -- as a streamer, you need to be active on social media. And with 500 million daily users, Instagram harbors huge growing potential for live streamers -- especially those using Twitch or Mixer. It offers unique ways for content creators to meet like-minded people, make friends with them, and potentially collaborate on projects together. As a matter of fact, the biggest reason my channel has grown is because of my wonderful Insta-fam! And at the end of 2017, Instagram rolled out changes to its algorithm that emphasizes user engagement more than ever -- so if you’re not going hard on Instagram, it’s time to step it up! So, as a streamer, here are some things to keep in mind. First: Engagement is the #1 priority! The more a user interacts with your posts, the more they will see your posts in their feed. Instagram offers unique features like Stories, Carousel, Swipe Right, and Videos -- and it will reward those who use their features to their fullest extent. Second: Be human -- don’t be a robot. Responding to comments and direct messages factors into engagement -- and it helps your followers feel more intimately connected to you. Third: Time is a huge factor when it comes to Instagram success! This means both the time you post and the time people spend interacting with your posts. If you can get people to spend more time on your Instagram, you can get more engagement on Instagram -- and that’s sort of the point, right? Fourth: Hashtag it up! Remember, you can use up to 30 hashtags on your Instagram posts. Just make sure you don’t use a tag that’s shadowbanned so you can maximize your post’s reach. Fifth: Aesthetics are still important. Keep curating a feed of beautiful images for people to look at -- it helps you connect with your audience. Sixth: JUMP ON TRENDS. Sure, not all trending subjects apply to your audience, but they can if you incorporate them in creative, relevant ways -- creating a powerful, timely, and organic way to engage with your followers.
