Recorded April 23, 2016, in Timken Lecture Hall at California College of the Arts on the San Francisco campus. The Graduate Program in Visual and Critical Studies (VCS) trains students to deeply engage visual culture by refining written and oral presentation abilities, sharpening critical faculties, fostering research skills, expanding methodological options, and furthering the development of both creative and traditional modes of critical expression. The 2016 VCS Spring Symposium serves as the program's capstone event at which this year’s cohort will present innovative and transformative research in the field of visual and critical studies. In this half-day-long public symposium, VCS graduate candidates will critically examine visual phenomena across the range of fields represented at the college: art, social practice, film, design, digital media, comics, creative writing, architecture, and curatorial practice. They will explore visual culture within a curricular framework of critical theory, visual studies, cultural studies, and writing. Learn more: cca.edu/academics/graduate/visual-critical-studies
