Thursday Railfanning on the NS Memphis District East End (10-11-18)

While my car was still in the shop two weeks ago, my good friend, FanFan61618, took me out to visit the North Alabama Railroad Museum and do some railfanning.

The first place we went to was the North Alabama Railroad Museum. While there, we saw that a train was getting close, so we set-up on the other side of the tracks by the museum (which we didn't realize they don't like us doing), and I pointed my camera towards the pile of spilled coal along the tracks (NS had a coal train accidentally dump a load there a while back). Much to our surprise, the train was NS 26Q with UP 2002, one of the two Olympic Torch Relay painted SD70Ms, trailing behind an NS Dash-9 on it! I was especially surprised by this as I had thought it had come through the night before!

A little while later, we relocated to downtown Madison, AL and caught two more trains. The first one was a loaded coal train with two BNSF ES44ACs pulling and a BNSF ES44AC and a BNSF SD70ACe pushing, so it wasn't too interesting. The next train we caught was a bit more interesting, however. It was NS 362 with an NS ES44AC leading an ex-CSX AC60CW, an NS SD60E, and an NS SD40-2 in an Operation Lifesaver paint scheme! While it would've been better to have seen the ex-CSX AC6000 leading, it was still a nice catch (though my best catch of the day is still NS 26Q).
